Skagit Special Olympics was established as a community-based program in 1980 to provide local sports training and competitions with a focus on friendships and fun.
Athletes have the opportunity to participate in a variety of local Special Olympics Sports offered throughout the year:

To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
We are a catalyst for inclusion! Special Olympics is the leader in sports, inclusive health, and community building, empowering children and adults with intellectual disabilities to be valued on and off the playing field.
In order to participate in Special Olympics, every athlete must be registered into the Special Olympics Portal.

Our program relies entirely on the Volunteers. Coaching and volunteer support of our sports programs is provided by friends and families. Contact UsWe post and share schedules once facility usage is approved by various organizations (School Districts, Skagit Valley College, Skagit Valley Family YMCA, Parks and Recreation Departments,
Avalon Golf Course, Skagit Valley Pickleball, Riverside Bowling Lanes). This process takes considerable time and may result in releasing schedules with short notice.
We keep last year's schedules on line to give athletes, parents and guardians an idea of timelines. We try to stay with the same practice days and times every year.
